Stuthi Vahini, a cultural group promoting devotional
singing and traditional art forms among the ladies
has just celebrated its Silver Jubilee. As the name
suggests it carries devotional music to all the
people in and around Bangalore combining classics
with light classical in a pleasingly simple form
that appeals to even those uninitiated into music.
The essential features of devotion are simplicity,
humility and deep involvement all of which can be
found in the renderings of Stuthi Vahini.
Beginning with a small
group of about ten members, Stuthi Vahini has grown
into a popular cultural land mark of Malleswaram.
Many religious and social institutions seek the
group performance of Stuthi Vahini on a regular basis
which have become calendered events of the
respective organizations.
To many women-
housewives and professionals, young and elderly -
Stuthi Vahini has infused a sense of purpose and self
esteem. Many are discovering their own talents,
singing or other fine art forms, hitherto
unexpressed through their participation in Stuthi
Vahini. A few practising Engineers and Doctors are
also finding a refreshing diversion in Stuthi
Vahini. The group thus is serving silently as a
vehicle to preserve and practice some of the fine
traditions of our society transcending generations.
Shrimati Vatsala Rao, the Founder of Stuthi
Vahini works untiringly and commands respect
and affection of more than two hundred
members today. Twenty five year long
unbroken activities of the organization owe
much to the commitment and selfless service
of Smt Rao.
